Auburn Primary School House System

All students at Auburn Primary School are in one of our coloured houses- Freeman (yellow), Monash (blue), Swinburne (red) and Harcourt (green), each named by our community to honour inspiring Australians who represent our school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. To see how our community went about reviewing and selecting these house names, see the video below.

Demonstrating our values every day: As part of our approach to School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, staff use positive acknowledgement, highlighting students who are demonstrating expected behaviours, aligned to our values and traits. We accompany these specific acknowledgements with house points, with students working towards a school wide goal / reward.

Alongside our Stars of the Week that celebrate individual student achievements, every day we aim to celebrate the Auburn values and traits.

Sports and other school events: House points are awarded for participation in our school sports events, such as Cross Country, Athletics and Swimming at various times across the year

Students can earn points for their house in a number of ways:

To celebrate the relaunch of fortnightly House Connect program for 2025 and engage with our new house names, we hosted a KABOOM Sports Day, where students came together for a morning of high-energy games and challenges, working alongside peers from all year levels. It was wonderful to see so much house spirit, collaboration and fun!

Ongoing, House Connect sessions are all about strengthening relationships across our school, giving students opportunities to connect with students and teachers from across the school, build friendships and social skills and demonstrate leadership.

Throughout Term 1, students participated in a range of activities, including designing house bandanas, exploring the inspiring stories behind our new house names and creating ‘hands of our house’ displays to reflect the values and qualities of each house leader.

We also came together to celebrate Harmony Day, recognising and celebrating the rich diversity within our school community. These experiences have helped build a strong sense of identity, belonging and pride within each house.

As we move into Term 2, students will continue to show their creativity and collaboration by writing new house chants in small groups. Later in the term, houses will perform and vote on their favourite chant to officially represent them for 2025.
