Digital Technologies at Auburn

Recently, the school has made a large investment in iPads for the Junior School and laptops for the Senior School, phasing out our previous BYOD model, to focusing on having school based devices that students can learn with and use during their time here. We are incredibly grateful for the parent contributions which have helped fund this, and support our digital learning programs, which are underpinned by eSmart practises – focusing in the safe, responsible and creative use of technology to support learning.

Prep students have begun learning how to use basic tools on the iPad such as taking photos and recording videos. They are now starting to incorporate these skills into their investigations and inquiry learning.

Year 1/2 students have been using apps like Literacy Planet to read digital books at their level, and Mathletics to reinforce their understanding of addition, subtraction, place value, and when taking photos of shapes that we notice in our environment. Teachers at this level have also been trialling the use of digital platforms, such as SeeSaw to share learning moments and classroom photos with families, strengthening home-school connections.

Year 3/4 students have been using Google Suite for Education to publish digital texts and record instructional cooking videos as part of their Dream Sandwich text.

Year 5/6 students have been listening to and analysing a range of podcasts to identify effective techniques such as tone and purposeful vocabulary. They have applied these skills to create their own podcasts about chemical reactions, using Audacity to record and edit their audio. To enhance engagement, students have also used web-based platforms like Soundtrap to compose original theme music and layer in sound effects, bringing their science storytelling to life.

Coding club is a weekly feature enjoyed by around 50 students twice weekly where students have the opportunity to learn coding skills and support the development of problem solving skills, collaboration and algorithmic thinking.
